Virginia Comicon Announces Roster for 25th Anniversary Show! Herb Trimpe and James O'Barr named Guests of Honor! RICHMOND, VA – The Virginia Comicon will celebrate both Halloween and its 25th anniversary with its annual two-day show Saturday and Sunday, October 29-30, 2011 at The Crowne Plaza West, 6531 West Broad Street Richmond, VA 23230. Show hours are from 10 AM to 4 PM both days and admission is $10 for the weekend. The show’s guest of honor is artist Herb Trimpe. Not only his he known for his long run on Incredible Hulk, including illustrating the first appearance of Wolverine, but he also was recognized with Comic-Con International: San Diego’s Humanitarian of the Year Award in 2002 for his work as a chaplain at the World Trade Center site after 9/11. Also on board are Crow creator James O’Barr, Sgt. Rock: The Lost Battalion writer artist Billy Tucci, Cobalt 60 creator and underground commix legend Mark Bode, the Star Wars art team of the Fillbach Brothers, Archie’s Dan Parent, Dead Irons and Army of Darkness writer James Kuhoric, Astounding Space Thrills creator and tooncasting pioneer Steve Conley, Vampire, PA and Zombie-Proof writer J.C. Vaughn, Vampirella and Codename: Knockout artist Louis Small, Jr., underground price guide author Dan Fogel, Greg LaRoque (Flash), Budd Root (Cavewoman), and others. “We’re really excited about this year’s Halloween-themed line-up,” said Brett Carreras, the show’s co-promoter. “While some many notice that there’s a bit of horror element with our guests this time around, our regular fans will also find a great representation of our usual family-friendly type of guest rosters. As always, we’ll have a costume contest (with $500 in prizes) on Sunday and goodies for all.” Publishers and studios such as Avatar Press, Insight Studios Group, Fangoria, Tsunami Studios will be joined by The Hero Initiative and Comic Collector Live. There will be a comic symposium lounge, and a small press room is being organized by Dan Nokes of 21st Century Sandshark Studios. Show exclusives already announced include an exclusive Lady Death #10 from Avatar, a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles exclusive from IDW Publishing, a soon-to-be-announced Top Cow Productions exclusive, and an extremely limited Virginia Comicon exclusive Zombie-Proof one-shot in advance of Moonstone’s upcoming hardcover collection. For dealers, the show is operating as two separate one-day shows, allowing vendors to set up on either day or both days.
